Tik Text / What Font Does TikTok Use?
What Font Does TikTok Use?
TikTok uses its own typeface, TikTok Sans. TikTok introduced it on May 17, 2023 across its app and brand touchpoints, made with the type foundry Grilli Type; the announcement calls Proxima Nova its previous typeface. On July 10, 2025 TikTok released TikTok Sans as a free, open-source font under the SIL Open Font License 1.1.
What you can change inside TikTok
TikTok Sans is the font behind TikTok's interface and text overlays. Unicode styles change the letters themselves, so they can go in the fields that accept free text, but not in the @username.
| Where | Styled text? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Name, bio, captions, comments | Styled text: Yes | Paste a Unicode style from above. The styled letters generally show, though a few devices may show a box for a rare character. |
| @username | Styled text: No, plain only | Letters, numbers, underscores and periods only, 2 to 24 characters. |

What this means for your bio
TikTok Sans is a font file, so you can't paste it into your bio. TikTok describes it as the core font behind its interface and the text overlays on videos and images. What you can change in your own text is the characters themselves: the styles above are Unicode letters (bold, cursive, gothic and more), so the styled look travels with the text you paste.
